Inbound and Outbound Materials Handling
In an industrial plant, these processes relate to the movement of materials into and out of the company.
‘Inbound’ refers to everything that enters the plant: raw materials, components and materials required for production.
These are received, checked and stored in the warehouse.
‘Outbound’, on the other hand, refers to everything that leaves the plant: finished products are collected, prepared, palletised, packed and dispatched to customers or to other production sites for further processing.
In summary, inbound ensures that there is no shortage of materials for production, whilst outbound guarantees that products reach the recipient correctly.
Both processes are essential for ensuring a continuous and efficient production flow.

What are the key processes, and what solutions do they involve?
Inbound / Outbound
Goods are unloaded, scanned and recorded in the system, ensuring full visibility. They are then placed in dedicated staging areas according to type, priority or storage requirements.

Buffer / Inspection
This is followed by a detailed inspection to check quality, labelling and compliance. Any anomalies are automatically flagged and dealt with.

Stoccaggio
Approved materials are sorted and stored in AS/RS systems, optimised according to demand and the characteristics of the item.

Picking / Gestione ordini
Orders are converted into automated tasks. AMRs follow optimised routes to collect products, operating either autonomously or in collaboration with pickers.

Conferma ordine
The collected items are consolidated in the packing area, checked and prepared for dispatch.

Packaging Supply
Packaging materials are automatically managed and supplied to the workstations, ensuring a continuous, uninterrupted flow.

Outbound
The outbound phase involves the automatic creation of loading queues and the coordination of dispatch or delivery activities.
